My Story
Hi, I’m Michael Axe — though a lot of people online know me as the Axeman Author. I write speculative fiction, blending dystopian grit with a touch of the fantastical, because I’ve always believed the best way to explore real-world struggles is through imagined ones.
Getting here wasn’t fast or easy. Writing has been a twenty-plus year journey for me — one filled with false starts, procrastination, and plenty of life detours. For seventeen years I worked in a job that went nowhere, always telling myself “someday” I’d finish the stories in my head. Finally, I realized someday would never come unless I made it. So, I quit. I walked away from the career that was holding me back, and I committed myself to the one thing I’d been running from: finishing the book.
That decision became The Water Wars Saga. At first, the characters were boys, but when I became a dad to three daughters, everything shifted. Morgan, Kaylie, and Gwen aren’t just characters — they’re named after my girls, and each carries a spark of who they are. Their strength, humor, and determination shaped this story just as much as my imagination did.
When I’m not writing, I’m usually surrounded by stories in other forms. I’m a lifelong gamer, a collector rebuilding the library I lost in a fire, and a big believer in family movie nights. Outdoors is my other sanctuary — camping, fishing, hunting, or just hiking a trail gives me space to recharge and dream up the next adventure.
I also tinker with side projects that tie back to books, creativity, and leaving behind something bigger than myself. They’re still works in progress, but at the heart of them is the same idea that drives my writing: stories have power, and sharing them matters.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned along the way, it’s that creativity is never wasted. Even when it feels slow, messy, or uncertain, the act of making something — a book, a memory, a project — is worth it. And if you’ve found your way here, thank you for being part of this journey.
